PHONY BANK ALERT MESSAGE SCAM STILL CIRCULATING IN NORTH DAKOTA Posted on 2/14/2013
Attorney General Stenehjem reminds North Dakota residents to hang up on calls or recorded messages that require a financial account or credit card number to be entered or provided in order to unlock the account. The calls are phony. Stenehjem first warned about this scam in December, 2012, but recent reports indicate the scam artists are now using the names of numerous ND banks and credit unions for these fake alert messages. Residents who have provided account information in response to the phony messages should contact their financial institution immediately.
